About a month ago a handful of us here at White Lion went out to the Community First! Village in East Austin to experience first-hand the excitement that is about to be unleashed. I’ll tell you what. It’s an amazing place you really need to experience first-hand to fully appreciate the vision of what this place is about to become.

The Community First! village is a project from Mobile Loaves and Fishes. They are a tremendous group that provides food and clothing and promotes dignity for the homeless community.  We reached out to let them know our team wanted to make a donation of time and resources to help create awareness for the village. And we followed that up with a tour to check out what they had accomplished to date. What we felt when visiting the village was a welcoming sense of community-building more amazing than we could have imagined.  At that point we were firmly on-board to help.

The Community First! Village is a 27-acre master-planned community that will provide affordable, sustainable housing and a supportive community for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. It’s a project that has been in the works for nearly 10 years.

Their goal is to provide over 200 homes to help lift people off the streets. It will provide residents a sense of belonging and dignity by filling them with a real sense of community.

Beyond the innovative mix of affordable housing options, the village intends to offer a medical facility, a workshop for iron work and wood working, places for worship and fellowship, a memorial garden, outdoor theatre, bed and breakfast for mission visits and so much more. And you have to check out the Genesis Garden and the chicken coop too.

The landing page we created is our first step in helping them raise both awareness and funds to build out the entire village. It’s what we call a one-page site that tells a the complete story from top to bottom. It’s mobile friendly and is built to be flexible from smart phone to tablet and desktop. In the coming months we’ll be redesigning their main WordPress template for Mobile Loaves and Fishes to allow the whole site to also have a user friendly mobile experience.
