The Mansion is a historical event venue located near the University of Texas in Austin. The Mansion opened its doors in 1931 and currently serves as one of Austin's favorite places to entertain and celebrate. In addition to wedding ceremonies and receptions, the Mansion hosts banquets, parties, concerts, and dances.
The Challenge
Because of the ever-expanding event market in Austin, The Mansion recognized an opportunity to raise awareness of their unique amenities and increase their appeal to a younger audience. The Mansion identified their website as one of the primary channels to communicate their brand position and service offerings. The site needed to be not only engaging and intuitive for visitors, but also more succinctly communicate The Mansion’s differentiators for desktop and mobile users alike. Additionally, we were tasked with creating a scalable foundation which can support future phase upgrades as market demands dictate.
The Solution
To meet the needs of the Mansion, we opted for a Wordpress site so that their staff could have full administrative controls to update pricing, add photos for new events, and continually manage their messaging and presence on the web. We chose an image-driven design in order to show off the event space and provide an immersive experience to users. Browsing the site feels like you are inside the historic building, making it easy to envision hosting your own special event there.
Clean and Simple Design
We created a clean and simple design to focus the user’s attention on the photography and content of the site. This allows them to easily get the information they need. Each page offers its own unique experience of the venue, and the information is organized in a digestible and intuitive way.
Mobile-Friendly
We all know how much goes into planning an event, and with our ever-busy lives so much of this planning happens on the fly from a mobile device. It was important to put our best foot forward when it came to mobile design since so many future brides and event planners would be browsing venues from their phones. The new mobile experience allows potential customers to experience the best of the venue right from the palm of their hand.
Custom Image Gallery
On the Gallery page, we wanted users to be able to scroll through all the images at once but also drill down into individual images in a slideshow view. The image gallery we developed accomplishes both goals and provides a sophisticated and clean way for users to browse images. The gallery page is also designed to be accommodating for vertical and horizontal images so that as new pictures are added, the gallery adapts accordingly.
Results
The Mansion’s new website has positioned them alongside the leading event venues in Austin. In addition to a strong mobile presence, The Mansion now has a website that parallels the experience of hosting an event at their venue – gorgeous, elegant, and sophisticated.
